Celebrate identity beyond traditional gender expectations with the Genderqueer Pride Flag.
The Genderqueer Pride flag was designed by Marilyn Roxie and later updated in 2011 to its now widely recognized lavender, white, and green stripe arrangement. The design reflects the diversity and fluidity of gender experiences that exist outside conventional binary definitions of male and female.
Genderqueer is an umbrella term used by people whose gender identity or gender expression exists outside traditional cisgender norms. Some genderqueer people identify as nonbinary, gender non-conforming, transgender, or with more specific identities, while others simply use genderqueer as the identity that best fits their personal experience.
The flag’s colors were intentionally chosen to symbolize community, fluidity, and gender diversity.
Stripe Meanings
- Lavender — Queer identity and the blending of traditionally gendered colors
- White — Similar symbolism to the transgender flag and identities beyond the binary
- Green — The inverse complement of lavender, representing identities outside traditional gender expectations
The Genderqueer Pride flag has become an important symbol of visibility and affirmation for people whose identities challenge or expand traditional ideas about gender.
Bold, recognizable, and deeply affirming, this flag is perfect for Pride festivals, bedrooms, dorms, classrooms, offices, community spaces, and everyday visibility.
